“Sleep With Me”: The Uses of a Boring Podcast

Very often, the simplest ideas can be the most successful ones. Nobody in his right mind would think that a boring podcast would have any use. Yet it does, vastly. Drew “Scooter” Ackerman’s podcast “Sleep With Me” counted 2.3 million monthly downloads as of January 2017.

He deliberately makes his podcast as boring as possible. And—miracle of miracles—he has thousands of people tuning in every night to listen. The reason is that we live in the age of insomnia.

At a time when multiple mobile devices and hyper-connectivity on social media have made us all functioning insomniacs, a boring podcast may be what we all need. In addition to it, it’s more fun than sleeping pills. And cheaper, too.
