Why Amazon May Soon Become an Airline

Amazon is like water. It will flow and expand until something stops it. According to Bloomberg News, the online retailer is planning to invest $1.49 billion in a new air cargo hub in Hebron, Kentucky, near Cincinnati.

The goal is to ship items from 11 warehouses in Kentucky across the United States by air. Last year, Amazon announced that it had signed agreements with two aircraft leasing companies to make use of as many as 40 airplanes to carry packages around the U.S.

By the law of unintended consequences, we predict that Amazon may soon find itself becoming an airfreight company. A next logical step would be to become a commercial airline. Why it would not is beyond us.
