A scientific article published by the International Journal of Obesity said that diet sodas helped with weight loss. It turned out, however, to have been financed by an institute that has representatives from soda companies sitting on its board, according to reports in the British press. While that should not by necessity result in unsound science, not disclosing these links harms credibility, we hinge on impartial guidance to navigate the complexities of the world we live in. Partiality, when not actual cheating, not only harms the parties involved. It helps spread mistrust, with truth succumbing along with the lies.
